VOSB vs SDVOSB: What's the Difference?
VOSB Certification
- At least 51% owned by one or more veterans
- Veterans must be U.S. citizens
- Veteran owners must control management and daily operations
- Must meet SBA small business size standards
- Applies to any veteran who served and was discharged or released under honorable conditions
SDVOSB Certification
- Meets all VOSB requirements, plus:
- At least 51% owned by one or more service-disabled veterans
- Service-disabled veteran(s) must control management and operations
- Must have VA determination of service-connected disability
- Provides access to additional set-aside and sole-source contracts
Certification Requirements
To qualify for VOSB/SDVOSB certification through the SBA's Veteran Small Business Certification (VetCert) program, you'll need:
- Proof of veteran status (DD-214 or equivalent)
- For SDVOSB: VA letter documenting service-connected disability rating
- Documentation of business ownership (stock certificates, operating agreements, partnership agreements)
- Evidence of veteran control over management and operations
- Current business licenses and registrations
- SBA size standards qualification documentation
